What You Should Know?
UPSC is a constitutional body under Part XIV (Articles 315–323) of the Indian Constitution.
It was recommended by the Lee Commission (1924) and established in 1926.
It was renamed as the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in 1947.
Composition:
The UPSC comprises a chairman and other members, whose number is determined by the President of India.
Tenure & Resignation:
Members of UPSC hold office for a term of 6 years or until they attain the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier.
A member may resign by writing to the President of India.
Reappointment:
The Chairman is ineligible for reappointment after completion of tenure.
The Chairman cannot be re-employed under the Government of India or any State Government.
Members can be reappointed as Chairman of the UPSC or any State PSC.
