India introduced and led the adoption of the resolution ‘Promoting Sustainable Lifestyles for the Wise Use of Wetlands’ at Ramsar CoP15 held in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe (July 2025).
The resolution aligns with Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) launched by PM Modi at UNFCCC CoP26.
It calls for education, awareness, and collaboration across public and private sectors to create enabling conditions for wetland conservation.
‘Wise Use’ Concept:
Defined as maintaining the ecological character of wetlands through an ecosystem approach and sustainable development.
Emphasises decentralized management involving local and indigenous communities.
Sustainable Lifestyles are defined as behaviours and choices that:
Reduce environmental degradation;
Ensure equitable socio-economic development;
Improve quality of life through well-being and social responsibility.
