Why it Matters? 

  • Cabinet approves ₹6520 crore outlay (including ₹1920 crore additional) for PMKSY (2021–26) to boost agro-processing infrastructure through food irradiation units and food safety labs. 

What You Should Know? 

  • It was launched as SAMPADA (Scheme for Agro-Marine Processing and Development of Agro-Processing Clusters) in 2017. 

  • It was later renamed as Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY). 

  • It is a Central Sector Scheme under the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI). 

  • It aims to supplement agriculture, modernize food processing, and reduce agri-waste. 

  • It seeks to build modern infrastructure with an efficient supply chain from farm gate to retail outlet. 

  • It focuses on enhancing farmer income, reducing post-harvest losses, boosting food exports, and generating rural employment.
