Context: Military contingents of India and Mongolia participating in an ongoing bilateral exercise in Ulaanbaatar are actively exchanging best practices in counter-terrorism operations and precision sniping, thereby improving interoperability.

➤ Edition & Venue: The 17th edition of the India–Mongolia Joint Military Exercise Nomadic Elephant is scheduled to be held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
➤ Nature: It is a bilateral annual military exercise, held alternately in India and Mongolia since 2006.
➤ Last Edition: The 16th edition was conducted in Umroi, Meghalaya, in July 2024.
➤ Objective: To enhance interoperability in semi-conventional operations in semi-urban and mountainous terrain under the UN Mandate – Chapter VII.
➤ UN Chapter VII: Authorizes the UN Security Council to take military and non-military actions (e.g., sanctions, troop deployment) for peace enforcement.
