At a regional fisheries review meeting in Kolkata, Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh urged West Bengal to expedite fish farmer registrations on the National Fisheries Digital Platform (NFDP).

Launched on September 11, 2024 under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Kisan Samridhi SahYojana (PMMKSSY), a central-sector scheme within PMMSY (Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana).
Aims to formalize India’s fisheries sector by creating a digital registry for fishers, fish farmers, vendors, processors, and micro-enterprises
Promoted through nationwide registration campaigns (Feb 14–22, 2025) involving State Fisheries Departments, NFDB, and Common Service Centres (CSCs)

Credit facilitation for working capital via Kisan Credit Cards
Aquaculture insurance incentives
Performance-based grants for value chain and quality systems

India is the second-largest fish producer globally, around 8% share in global fish production.
Total fish production increased by 104%.
142% growth in inland fish production over the last decade.
Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY)
Launched in September 2020 by the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying
Important Initiatives under PMMSY:
Fish Farmers Producer Organisations (FFPOs): Financial assistance for formation of FFPOs to empower fishers
Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF): Launched in 2018 for infra such as hatcheries, ice plants, harbours, cold chains
PM Matsya Kisan Samridhi Sah-Yojana (PM-MKSSY): Launched: Feb 2024 as a Central Sector sub-scheme of PMMSY. Focus: Institutional reforms, tech & finance interventions to strengthen long-term fisheries ecosystem
