National Critical Minerals Mission

Why it Matters?

The Union Cabinet approved a ₹1,500-crore scheme under the National Critical Mineral Mission to promote recycling of critical minerals from e-waste and end-of-life products. The six-year scheme (2025-31) supports new and existing recyclers, with one-third funds reserved for small and new beneficiaries.  

What You Should Know? 

National Critical Mineral Mission 

  • The Government of India launched the National Critical Mineral Mission (NCMM) in 2025. 

  • The mission ensures long-term supply security of critical minerals for clean energy and high-tech sectors. 

  • The Geological Survey of India will conduct 1,200 exploration projects from 2024-25 to 2030-31. 

  • These projects will help identify critical mineral reserves in the country. 

  • The mission also includes overseas acquisition efforts by central PSUs

  • It will support private sector investments in critical mineral assets abroad. 

  • NCMM aims to build mineral processing parks, centres of excellence, and strategic stockpiles. 

  • It will also encourage patents, research, and skill development in the value chain. 

  • The mission follows a hub-and-spoke model with IIT-Mumbai as a coordinating centre.
