M.S. Swaminathan is known as the Father of the Indian Green Revolution.
He promoted the concept of “Bio happiness”, integrating ecology, livelihood, and well-being.
He played a key role in introducing high-yielding varieties (HYVs) of wheat and rice during the 1960s and 70s.
He was the first recipient of the World Food Prize in 1987 for his outstanding contribution to global food security.
He advocated for an “Evergreen Revolution” – enhancing productivity in perpetuity without harming the environment.
He was awarded the Padma Shri (1967), Padma Bhushan (1972), and Padma Vibhushan (1989) by the Government of India.
