International Solar Alliance (ISA)
Why it Matters?
By 2025-end, the International Solar Alliance (ISA) will set up 17 Centres of Excellence globally and a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in India as a hub.
What You Should Know?
ISA was launched on November 30, 2015, by India and France during COP21 in Paris, aiming to promote solar energy deployment globally.
Its headquarters is in Gurugram, Haryana, India.
It is the first international organization established in India, highlighting the country’s leadership in renewable energy diplomacy.
As on October 2024, 120 countries have signed the Framework Agreement of ISA, out of which 104 countries have ratified it.
It aims to mobilize solar energy potential, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, improve energy access, and support climate change mitigation.
