Gaganyaan Mission
Why it Matters?
ISRO successfully tested the parachute system for Gaganyaan by dropping a dummy crew capsule from a Chinook helicopter in its first Integrated Air Drop Test (IADT-1).
What You Should Know?
Gaganyaan is India’s first human spaceflight mission being developed by ISRO.
The mission aims to send a three-member crew into low Earth orbit at about 400 km altitude for three days and bring them back safely.
The Human-rated Launch Vehicle Mark-3 (HLVM3) will be used for the mission.
The first uncrewed mission, Gaganyaan-1 (G1), is scheduled for December 2025 and will carry the humanoid robot Vyommitra.
The mission includes critical systems such as the Crew Emergency Escape System, Environmental Control and Life Support System, and advanced training facilities.
On success, India will become the fourth country after USA, Russia, and China to demonstrate independent human spaceflight capability.
