Why In News:
The 7th Governing Body Meeting of the National Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA) was held at the Central Academy for State Forest Service (CASFOS), Coimbatore.

What is CAMPA?
Established as a statutory body under the Compensatory Afforestation Fund Act, 2016, CAMPA manages funds collected from project developers when forest land is diverted for non-forest purposes such as mining, roads or industry.
CAMPA funds are held both at the national level (National CAMPA) and the state level (State CAMPA).
Its core objectives are Compensatory Afforestation, forest restoration, wildlife conservation and the utilisation of Net Present Value (NPV) funds collected from user agencies.
Net Present Value (NPV) is the amount charged to user agencies for the ecological services lost due to diversion of forest land, over and above the cost of compensatory afforestation.
This is calculated on the basis of the services and ecological value of the forests.
It depends on the location and nature of the forest and the type of industrial enterprise that will replace a particular parcel of forest.
CAMPA functions under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC).
Digital Governance Initiatives
Digital APO (FY 2026–27): End-to-end online workflow for planning, approval, dashboards, and fund/plantation monitoring.
Geospatial Monitoring & Evaluation System (GIS Lab): Uses satellite imagery + field verification for real-time tracking of afforestation and NPV projects.
Harit-SANKALP Portal: Provides QR-based traceability and unique IDs for nurseries/seed sources with MIS integration for CAMPA schemes.
