Why it Matters? 

Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog, and Bhashini (MeitY) signed a Statement of Intent to foster vernacular innovation by integrating language technology into AIM’s programs. The partnership will translate WIPO content into Indian languages, support grassroots innovators, and promote multilingual product development, ensuring inclusivity in India’s innovation ecosystem. 

What You Should Know? 

Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) 

  • It was launched in 2016 by NITI Aayog 

  • It is Government of India flagship initiative to promote a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship across all sectors and regions. 

  • Some of the Key Initiatives under this: 

  • Atal Tinkering Labs (ATLs): Its target audience is school students (classes 6–12). Over 10,000 labs have been sanctioned across districts. 

  • Atal Incubation Centres (AICs): Provides funding, mentoring, networking for startups. Over 68 AICs have been supported so far. 

  • Atal Community Innovation Centres (ACICs): It targets underserved & unserved regions, including Tier-2/Tier-3 towns and rural India. 

  • Atal New India Challenges (ANIC): It involves competitive challenges to find innovative solutions to national needs.  

  • Mentor India Campaign: It involves volunteer network of industry leaders guiding students and innovators. 

  • Initiatives of AIM are currently monitored and managed using real-time MIS systems and dynamic dashboards. 

Bhashini  

  • It stands for BHASHa INterface for India. 

  • It has been launched by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), 2022. 

  • Its implementation agency is Digital India BHASHINI Division under Digital India Corporation of the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY). 

  • It is a part of National Language Translation Mission (NLTM). 

  • It provides AI-based language translation tools for Indian languages, ensuring digital inclusion. 

  • It enables real-time speech-to-speech & speech-to-text translation. 

  • It aims to reduce language barriers in digital services, boosts accessibility for non-English speakers.
