  • India has been elected Chair of the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) Executive Board at the 23rd General Conference in Thailand, reinforcing five decades of leadership in regional media.  

What You Should Know? 

  • AIBD is a regional inter-governmental organization. 

  • It was established in 1977 under UNESCO.  

  • It is headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. 

  • Its objective is to promote cooperative media, policy exchange, resource sharing, and capacity building. 

  • Its members include 92 organizations from 44 countries. 

  • 26 government members (national broadcasters). 

  • 44 affiliate members from Asia-Pacific, Europe, Africa, Arab States, and North America. 

  • India is a founding member, represented by Prasar Bharati. 

  • India is re-elected as President of AIBD for 3rd consecutive term 

  • Theme of 2025 conference is “Media for People, Peace & Prosperity”.
