PSLV-C62 Mission / EOS-N1

PSLV-C62 Mission / EOS-N1
  • Context:

  • The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is scheduled to launch the PSLV-C62/EOS-N1 Mission from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.

  • This marks the 105th launch from Sriharikota and the 64th flight of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV)

  • About the Mission:

  • It is a commercial mission undertaken by NewSpace India Limited (NSIL)

  • It utilizes the PSLV-DL variant, making it the fifth flight for this specific configuration

  • Payloads:

  • The main payload is the EOS-N1, an earth observation satellite built for strategic purposes

  • The vehicle carries 15 co-passenger satellites developed by startups and academic institutions from India and abroad

  • The Key Co-passengers are: -

  • Theos-2 (Thailand/UK joint venture)

  • Munal (Nepal)

  • Edusat

  • Uaisat

  • Galaxy Explorer

  • Orbital Temple, Aldebaran-1 (Brazil)

  • KID Capsule (Spain/France)

  • CGUSAT

  • DSUSAT

  • MOI-1

  • LACHIT

  • Thybolt-3 (Dhruva Space)

  • Sanskarsat (Laxman Gyanpith)

  • AyulSat (OrbitAid)

  • The satellites will be injected into a Sun Synchronous Orbit

  • Uniquely, after satellite injection, the PS4 stage (the fourth stage of the rocket) will restart to de-boost and enter a re-entry trajectory

  • Both the PS4 stage and the KID Capsule are scheduled to re-enter Earth's atmosphere and impact the South Pacific Ocean, demonstrating debris mitigation capabilities.

  • Note:

  • During the launch, it "encountered an anomaly", with ISRO confirming that a deviation was observed during the rocket's third stage.

  • This is the second consecutive mission failure for the PSLV as a similar, previous attempt in May 2025 (PSLV-C61-EOS-09) also did not succeed.

  • The PSLV rocket, which uses two solid-fuel stages and two liquid-fuel stages, has been one of the most reliable vehicles of the space agency, failing only four times in the 64 missions it has undertaken, including the one on January 12, 2026.
