✔ Naresh Dadhich, one of India's leading theoretical physicists, died at the age of 81 in Beijing while on a lecture tour of China

Key Contributions to Physics & Astrophysics

✔ He was an internationally known general relativist

✔ He is widely recognised for his work on gravitation, black hole physics and cosmology

✔ His research covered general relativity, gravitation, black holes and other aspects of cosmology

✔ He had a great deal of research work to his credit, including the magnetic Penrose process.

Founding of IUCAA

✔ Dadhich was one of the three founding members of the Pune-based Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA)

o The other two are Jayant Narlikar and Ajit Kembhavi

o He served as the director of IUCAA from 2003-09.

o He was involved in efforts to create an inter-university research centre

✔ He was associated with the Maths department of Pune University for 17 years

✔ He was at the Beijing Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Applications for a month for research collaboration and lectures at the time of his passing.
