North Eastern Region (NER) District Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Index 2023–24
Why it Matters?
The second edition of the North Eastern Region District Sustainable Development Goals Index (2023–24) by NITI Aayog highlights improved SDG performance across all eight North Eastern States, aiding evidence-based planning and inclusive development in the region.
What You Should Know?
It was released by NITI Aayog and the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MoDoNER) with technical support from UNDP.
The index measures district-level performance across the eight states of the North Eastern Region on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The SDG Index follows the methodology of the NITI Aayog’s SDG India Index, and is a tool for evidence-based planning, gap identification, and resource allocation.
Districts in the index are categorized into four groups:
Achiever: Score = 100 (targets met)
Front Runner: Score = 65–99
Performer: Score = 50–64
Aspirant: Score < 50
The highest-scoring district is Hnahthial (Mizoram) with 81.43, and the lowest is Longding (Arunachal Pradesh) with 58.71.
All districts in Mizoram, Sikkim, and Tripura are classified as Front Runners, with none in the Achiever or Aspirant categories.
Sikkim has the least intra-state score variation (5.5 points), showing uniform performance across districts.
Tripura has high-scoring districts with minimal variation (6.5 points).
Mizoram and Nagaland have high scores but show greater internal variation (13.72 and 15.07 points, respectively).
