National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) celebrated its 23rd Foundation Day.
What is NIXI?
Established: 2003, under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
Nature: A not-for-profit company registered under Section 8 of the Companies Act.
Core Functions: Manages Internet Exchange Points (IXPs) across India, operates the .IN country-code top-level domain (ccTLD) registry, and runs the National Internet Registry (NIR) for IP address allocation.
NIXI's Key Roles
Internet Exchange Points (IXPs): IXPs allow ISPs (Internet Service Providers) to exchange internet traffic locally rather than routing it through international networks, reducing latency and costs.
.IN Domain Management: NIXI manages India's country-code Top-Level Domain (.in), including .bharat in Devanagari and other Indian scripts, supporting Digital India goals.
