Over 2.5 crore NSAP beneficiaries have their accounts linked with Aadhaar
This is ensuring transparency and direct benefit transfers.
About the NSAP
It was introduced in 1995.
It is a fully funded Centrally Sponsored Scheme implemented by the Ministry of Rural Development.
It extends financial support to individuals living below the poverty line (BPL) in both rural and urban areas.
The programme is a significant step towards fulfilling the Directive Principles of State Policy enshrined in the Constitution.
Five Components of NSAP
Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOAPS): Beneficiaries are BPL elderly citizens aged 60 years and above.
Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme (IGNWPS): Beneficiaries are BPL widows aged 40 to 79 years.
Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme (IGNDPS): Beneficiaries areBPL individuals aged 18 to 79 years with severe or multiple disabilities.
Annapurna Scheme: Beneficiaries are senior citizens who are eligible for the Old Age Pension (IGNOAPS) but are not receiving its benefits.
