National Improvised Explosive Device Data Management System (NIDMS)
Context:
The Union Home Minister recently inaugurated the National Improvised Explosive Device (IED) Data Management System (NIDMS) in New Delhi via video conferencing
About NIDMS:
It is a secure national digital platform designed to enable accurate, organized, and comprehensive analysis of bomb explosion-related incidents across the country.
It aims to strengthen the collection, standardization, integration, and secure sharing of IED-related data
The platform contains details of every bomb blast that has occurred in India since 1999.
The NIDMS headquar ters is located at the National Security Guard (NSG) garrison in Manesar, Haryana.
The NSG is the primary force for conducting post-blast analysis
Key Functionality:
One of the main features of NIDM is that it establishes the signature link between two or more incidents.
This could be either location, type of explosions or even the circuit used.
It serves as a "single-click access window" for data that was previously scattered across different case files, departments, and "silos," now making it available to every police unit as a national asset
The system allows for the accurate analysis of bomb explosion patterns, modus operandi (MO), and the types of explosives used.
The Ministry is developing advanced Artificial Intelligence-based software to connect NIDMS with other data sources, creating a strong security grid
The online database is available to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Anti-Terrorism Squads (ATS), state police forces, and all Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs).
It facilitates a two-way flow of information where data from any new incident can be uploaded and accessed for guidance
It will be integrated into the Inter-Operable Criminal Justice System (ICJS-2), which already connects data from courts, prisons (e-Prisons), prosecutions (e-Prosecution), forensics (e-Forensics), and fingerprints (NAFIS).
