NAKSHA
Context: The Ministry of Rural Development launched the second batch of the NAKSHA Capacity Building Programme to train urban officials in advanced geospatial technologies for modernizing land records across 157 Urban Local Bodies in India.

NAKSHA Programme: The NAtional geospatial Knowledge-based land Survey of urban Habitations (NAKSHA) is a city survey initiative under the Digital India Land Records Modernization Programme (DILRMP).
Nodal Ministry: It is implemented by the Department of Land Resources (DoLR), under the Ministry of Rural Development.
Pilot Coverage: The programme is being piloted in 152 urban local bodies across 26 states.
Selection Criteria: Cities selected have an area of less than 35 sq km and a population under 2 lakhs.
Timeline: The pilot phase is targeted for completion within one year.
Technical Partner: The Survey of India is the technical partner responsible for aerial surveys and providing orthorectified imagery through third-party vendors.
Geospatial Database: It aims to create a comprehensive geospatial database for urban land records.
Survey Techniques: Uses aerial and field surveys integrated with Geographic Information System (GIS) technology.
Governance & Planning: Enhances land governance, streamlines property records, and supports urban planning.
