  • 'Mahe', the first of eight Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Crafts (ASW SWC), was delivered to the Indian Navy.  

  • The vessel is named after the historic port town of Mahe in the Union Territory of Puducherry.  

  • Development and Indigenous Content 

  • The vessel has been indigenously designed and constructed by Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), Kochi

  • The delivery of 'Mahe', which has over 80% indigenous content, marks a milestone in the government's vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. 

  • Key Specifications and Capabilities 

  • The ship is approximately 78 metres long and has a displacement of around 1,100 tons. 

  • Role: It is equipped for: 

  • Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) operations in coastal waters. 

  • Underwater surveillance. 

  • Low Intensity Maritime Operations (LIMO). 

  • Advanced Mine Laying capability. 

  • It is fitted with torpedoes, Multi-functional Anti-Submarine Rockets, and advanced radars and sonars.
