Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas & Bhagwan Birsa Munda
Context:
Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs) will observe the Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh Pakhwada from November 1st to 15th, 2025.
This will culminate in the grand nationwide celebration of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas on November 15, 2025, which marks the 150th Birth Anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda.
More than 1.5 lakh tribal students from 497 EMRSs are expected to participate.
Bhagwan Birsa Munda (1875-1900)
He is a legendary tribal leader and folk hero.
He led the Munda Rebellion (1899-1900), also known as the 'Ulgulan' or 'Great Tumult', against British colonial rule and their exploitative land policies.
He founded the 'Birsait' faith
It is a religious movement that blended traditional tribal beliefs with social reforms.
He opposed Christian missionaries, conversion activities, and superstitions.
His resistance forced the British to introduce the Chotanagpur Tenancy Act of 1908.
The act prohibited the transfer of tribal lands to non-tribals.
He is revered as Dharti Aaba (Father of the Earth)
PM-JANMAN Mission
The full form is Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan.
It was launched on Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas (November 15) in 2023.
It aims for the socio-economic development of 75 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs).
The mission aims to provide basic facilities such as:
safe housing (pucca houses),
clean drinking water,
road connectivity, electricity, and mobile connectivity to previously unreached PVTG households and habitations.
Sustainable livelihoods opportunities in 3 years
These objectives are planned to be met through 11 interventions implemented by 9-line ministries.
