  • The Indian Navy has announced plans to organize the International Fleet Review (IFR) in February 2026 at Visakhapatnam

  • This event is timed to coincide with the 75th anniversary of the Indian Republic. 

  • About International Fleet Review (IFR): 

  • The upcoming exercise will focus on the themes “United through Oceans” and “Strengthening Bridges of Friendship” 

  • India last conducted an International Fleet Review in 2001 to mark the 50th year of the Republic.  

  • The 2026 edition continues this tradition of celebrating significant national milestones with maritime diplomacy. 

  • Objective: 

  • It serves as a platform to reinforce maritime cooperation and multilateralism, which are essential for tackling global challenges (like piracy, climate change, and illegal fishing) 

  • It underscores the central role of the maritime domain in India's foreign policy and strategic outreach. 

  • Significance: 

  • The event highlights naval diplomacy as a vital component of India's strategic toolkit
