Why In News: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited New Zealand and met his counterpart Christopher Luxon in Auckland on 10 July 2026, the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to New Zealand in 40 years. The two sides elevated bilateral ties to a Strategic Partnership and adopted a 'Roadmap to 2030' to guide cooperation over the next four years, resulting in 18 outcomes/agreements. Key Outcomes and MoUs Maritime Cooperation: A Memorandum of Arrangement between India's Ministry of Defence and the New Zealand Defence Force for enhanced Indo-Pacific maritime cooperation. Maritime Security Dialogue: An Annual Maritime Security Dialogue has been agreed to strengthen coordination. Maritime Heritage Complex (Lothal): Cooperation between the National Maritime Heritage Complex, Lothal (Gujarat) and the New Zealand Maritime Museum. Mutual Logistics Support: An arrangement between the Indian Navy and the New Zealand Defence Force for reciprocal logistics support. Counter-Terrorism: Establishment of a Joint Working Group on Counter-Terrorism. Disaster Management: A Memorandum of Cooperation between India's NDMA and New Zealand's National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) focusing on earthquake and tsunami resilience. Polar Research: MoU between the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR), Goa and the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, on Antarctic research.
Key Facts for Prelims Global Biofuels Alliance: New Zealand has joined the alliance, which India launched at the G20 Summit (2023) to promote sustainable biofuel adoption. ○ Global Biofuel Alliance (GBA) is a multi-stakeholder alliance comprising governments, international organisations, and industry stakeholders. ○ It is an India-led initiative that brings together the largest producers and consumers of biofuels to promote the development, adoption, and deployment of biofuels. ○ Its objective is to establish biofuels as a key pillar of the global energy transition, while fostering energy security, employment generation, and economic growth.
