Why it Matters? 

  • Indian Railways will commemorate the 350th Martyrdom Day of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji to raise awareness of his teachings and sacrifices. Initiatives include Punjabi signboards, enhanced hygiene, Langar on trains, special pilgrimage trains, and improved facilities.  

What You Should Know?  

  • He served as the ninth Guru from 1664 until his martyrdom in 1675.  

  • His son, Guru Gobind Singh ji, succeeded him as the tenth Guru and founded the Khalsa.  

  • He built the city of Anandpur Sahib. 

  • He refused to convert to Islam under pressure from Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, choosing execution over religious coercion.  

  • Due to this, he earned the title of “Hind Di Chadar”.  

  • He is recognized as the second Sikh martyr.  

  • His martyrdom is remembered as the Shaheedi Divas of Guru Tegh Bahadur every year on 24 November.
