About the Viksit Vibrant Villages Programme
It is a youth-led initiative aimed at enhancing grassroots engagement, promoting national integration, and supporting sustainable development in India’s border villages.
Implementation: The programme is implemented by the Ministry of Youth affairs in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police.
Key Features
The initiative involves 500 MY Bharat volunteers from across the country who will directly engage with communities in strategically important border regions of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Ladakh.
The selection of volunteers was conducted through a nationwide online quiz competition, ensuring broad-based participation.
It is designed as a seven-day residential programme, allowing participants to stay in border villages and interact closely with local communities, Panchayati Raj Institutions, district administrations, and security forces.
The initiative aims to provide firsthand exposure to the socio-economic conditions, cultural heritage, developmental challenges, and strategic significance of India’s frontier regions.
A key component is the promotion of the “Nation First Challenge”, a nationwide campaign encouraging responsible citizenship and sustainable lifestyles.
Under this campaign, MY Bharat volunteers advocate five major themes:
adoption of Swadeshi products
healthy cooking practices
use of public transport and fuel conservation
promotion of natural farming
support for local tourism.
